HYROX Training in Wilmslow: How to Prepare for Your First HYROX

Signing up for your first HYROX gives your training a clear target. The challenge is that you need more than running fitness or gym strength alone: you need to perform both while fatigued.

Build your running gradually

Running makes up a major part of the event, so consistent running matters. Build volume progressively rather than suddenly adding several hard runs to your week. Include easier aerobic work as well as faster efforts.

Get strong at the movement patterns

Strength provides the foundation for efficient sled work, lunges, carries and other demanding stations. Squats, hinges, pushes, pulls and loaded carries all have a place in a well-rounded programme.

Practise compromised running

HYROX repeatedly asks you to run after completing a station. Training this transition teaches you how to control your pace and settle back into running when your legs and breathing are already under pressure.

Don't turn every workout into a race

Hard sessions are useful, but improvement also requires lower-intensity work, technical practice and recovery. A structured plan is more effective than trying to simulate race day every time you train.
